OKEIKO – Extra 5
In order to prevent the spreading of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), Rankoh Fujima's rehearsal room was closed down for three months. That is when the idea of remote practice came. The disciples would send videos of themselves doing the dances at home to Rankoh, who would watch them and sends notes and remarks back to them on Line (a popular communication app in Japan). At the same time, Rankoh would record a demonstration of the dance in the rehearsal room and send it to the students. We might say, that was a very analog way to do remote practice. After doing this several times, he came up with the idea of this OKEIKO series on Youtube. Eventually, he also started "real practice" in the studio while taking measures to prevent infection. Nonetheless, the OKEIKO series, which can be seen by people all over the world, has been continued.
