Nihonbuyo workshops really come to life when it comes to ’ashibyoshi’ (foot rhythm). Japanese and foreign members of the workshop equally enjoy stamping out the rhytm.. However, in Nihon Buyo sometimes they instruct the dancers to do ’ashibyoshi’ so that it ’produces sounds in seven colors’. (In Japanese the color of a sound or tone is expressed with the word ’neiro’.) This means not only how loud or weak the sound is; there also has to be a slight difference in how each tone reverberates.
