OKEIKO 23

“Te” (=forms) in Nihonbuyo which are using the hands: “TEGAESHI" and "KAIGURI". Many meanings can be assigned to "Tegaeshi”, which look as if the dancer is emanating or releasing something from inward toward outward. On the other hand, “Kaiguri”, in which the hands are “twirled” from outside to the inside, has usually no meaning and is often used to embellish the movement. The direction of "from inward to outward” has a meaning, while “from outward to inward” has none. It seems to me that this in itself carries a deeper meaning.
