OKEIKO 14
The final episode of 'The Green Pine’. A courtesan and a customer make a 'pinky promise' (yubikiri). However, this is a 'another world' from the general society’s point of view. After that, the story goes on with a reference to 'Ise Monogatari' (narrative literature written around 900 A.D.) that says, 'Be happy even in your old age’. The lyrics of this piece is rich in play on words; and while describing the scenes of the red light district, it implies the wish for ’the pine with young leaves to grow into an old pine tree’. (TN: The pine here also refers to the girl appearing in the story.) Finally it ends with an impressive finale. Dances, where movements literally foloow and express the lyrics, do not have a coherent story. However, the flow of the movements is very musical.
