ROSY-CHEEKED TALES – ILLUSTRATIONS BY SATOE TONE

Japanese illustrator Satoe Tone has gained many admirers in Hungary after two of her works has been published in Hungarian: readers of all age have been charmed by Pippo’s Journey and Where the Heart is. Illustrations from the latter make up the core of this exhibition, which is the third time for Ms. Tone to present her fabulous art in Budapest. The sweet cat couple is joined by Pippo, the frog and the characters of three other books. Ms. Tone’s illustrations carry traces of traditional Japanese art as well as elements of modern European painting. In her stories the texts are short, she lets the pictures „talk” instead; some even say that her paintings speak directly to the soul. Her illustrations are dreamlike and have an airy, fluffy feel to them, which captures the hearts of children and adults alike. She lives in Milan, Italy since 2011 and after receiving the International Award for Illustration at the Bologna International Children's Book Fair in 2013 her work has become popular in whole Europe.
